King Cake

Our office looks forward to Mardi Gras for a number of reasons. The number one reason being king cakes. So, we decided to taste as many as we could by having a contest.

All king cakes were ordered the day before judging and were requested to be ready for pickup at 2 p.m. The smell of sweet confections filled the office as the king cakes arrived. The judges (volunteers from our office) literally lined up as the moderator sliced the cakes and placed them onto numbered plates.

Judges were unaware which bakeries were selected. The king cakes were sampled in no particular order and were evaluated in six categories: presentation, freshness, amount of cinnamon, amount of icing, taste and texture.

No matter how you slice it, Mardi Gras with no king cake is a sin in the South. So try them all and decide for yourself whose king cake reigns supreme. PoV
